A BIG DAY OF BOWLS AT THE ANNUAL JOHN MURRAY TRIPLES EVENT

BLOG, COMMUNITY NEWS | 4 Nov 2025 |

It was a massive day of bowls on Sunday, 25th October, as 16 teams and 48 bowlers descended upon Bankstown Sports Bowls Club to compete in the annual John Murray Triples Event. Running for close to 40 years, the event has become a crowd favourite on the bowls calendar, with teams participating from across the Metro South West and Metro South East Regions.

With the weather threatening storms all day, the teams managed to get through 3 games without getting too wet, with Cabramatta, St John’s Park and Belfield taking out first, second and third place respectively. Bankstown Sports Bowls Committee member Tony Campbell congratulated all bowlers for their attendance and performances on the day, which he described as “a very competitive day of bowls combined with lots of laughs and good sportsmanship displayed by all.”

One of the highlights of the day was the local derby, and hard fought clash between the Bankstown Sports Bowls Club and Birring Sports Club teams in Game 1 of the day, with a special guest appearance by Bankstown Sports Club Chairman, John Murray, dusting off the bowls for the Bankstown team.

The day was topped off with an absolute feast by Rocky from Rocky’s Grill; a crowd favourite amongst the local community, before the event formalities taking place to present the place-winners with over $3000 in prize money.

Bankstown Sports Club has been a longstanding sponsor of the annual event and is looking forward to even greater success in 2026 and beyond.
