BRINGING SMILES TO THE FACES OF SICK KIDS

BLOG, COMMUNITY NEWS | 14 Jan 2026 |

Every year, thousands of children are admitted to hospitals in NSW with serious or life-threatening conditions, requiring treatment that can keep them away from their families for weeks – and even months – on end.

More than 3,500 of these kids are from The Hills Shire.

As there is no public hospital located within the LGA, these sick kids are admitted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

To support our local community, Baulkham Hills Sports Club has contributed $10,000 to the Clown Doctor’s Program at Westmead, which uses humour therapy to support mental health, ease fear, pain and trauma, and provide support to patients and their families in their time of need.
The Children’s Hospital at Westmead is the largest paediatric centre in NSW and is equipped to support children with severe burns, major heart conditions, and liver and kidney diseases.

The Clown Doctors program is offered at no cost, with trained professionals visiting 4 days per week, for 50 weeks of the year. They work with medical staff to address the physiological and psychological needs of patients, providing a distraction for sick and frightened children, empowering long-term patients, encouraging resilience, and providing respite for anxious parents.

We look forward to seeing a few more smiling faces in the Hills Shire!
