Year Of The Dog

By Kelly Sheehan | 13 Feb 2018 |

Bankstown Sports will be a sea of gold and red this weekend as we celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome in the Year of the Dog. This traditional festival marks the turn of the Chinese lunar calendar, and the beginning of another year of hard work, prosperity and good fortune.

We have an exciting line-up of entertainment planned with the God of Fortune and Lion Dance travelling through the club on Friday 16 February and Saturday 17 February from 7pm handing out red envelopes with chocolate gold coins to ward off evil spirits and wish patrons good luck for the year ahead.

Then on Tuesday 20 February from 7.30pm in the Rainforest Lounge we have a free Lunar New Year concert. We will have performances from Chinese lion dancers, traditional drummers, Neo face-change artist, Kenny the Chinese juggler, Sally Song performing a fan dance and a ribbon dance, the Lily Cheng dancers, and award-winning MC Nicole He, who will be our host. We will also have a Chinese calligrapher this year, who will write the names of members and guests on rice paper bookmarks, which they can then keep.

Bring your family and friends and enjoy a night of traditional Chinese song and dance as we bring in the Lunar New Year!
