The 2018 Little Athletics NSW Annual General Meeting and Conference was held on Saturday 21 July and Sunday 22 July at The Pavilion, Kiama.
This year’s conference theme was “Sport- a beacon of light, shining a light on the future”. The focus was on the important role sport plays in junior and senior lives, diversity, inclusion, and the road ahead. The agenda featured a broad range of workshop topics and an impressive array of keynote speakers, including the Director of Culture and Leadership at Australian Sports Commission, Merilee Barnes.
This year, Baulkham Hills Sports staff member, Emily Jordan was lucky enough to attend this event and was awarded the Zone Coordinator Of The Year award.
Emily first got involved with Little Athletics in 2006 when she joined the Winston Hills Little Athletics Club as a junior. It didn’t take long for Emily to fall in love with the sport and in 2010, she took on a volunteer role as an age manager and track umpire.
In 2011, Emily reached the age of 18 and was eligible to join the Winston Hill Little Athletics Club Committee where she acted in a variety of roles including the social officer, the child protection officer, trophies officer and canteen assistant.
In 2016, Emily joined the Zone Committee as a delegate which led her to become the Zone Coordinator.
Emily says she enjoys volunteering to give back to the sport.
“I have never volunteered my time to Little Athletics to receive recognition, the sport gave me so much when I was younger, I just want to give back to it. I met and formed many friendships through the sport which I still maintain to this day.”
Emily’s commitment to grassroots sport demonstrates that she is an inspirational role model to volunteers and the young sporting community.
