Hopdog Beerworks, Sydney Beer Week, Basement Brewhouse, craft beer
From 22-29 October, the Brewhouse will be showcasing two different beers from five of our most popular craft breweries as part of Sydney Beer Week 2017, and we want our customers to tell us which style they prefer. One will be hop-centric while the other will be a sour.
HopDog BeerWorks which is a brewery based in Nowra NSW, is one of the breweries taking part, and we caught up with Head Brewer, Tim Thomas to talk about what they have planned for us.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR BREWERY…
HopDog BeerWorks is an 8-hectolitre brew house set in South Nowra, in the Shoalhaven’s south coast. Our company is about to celebrate its 6th anniversary, and is about to open its own sister restaurant and bar, The Dog & Monocle.
We started off as Australia’s smallest brewery back in 2011, before upgrading in 2014, and over the years, this family-owned and run brewery has cranked out some of the most bizarre and awesome craft beers the industry has seen.
WHAT BEERS WILL YOU BE PROVIDING FOR SYDNEY BEER WEEK AT BASEMENT BREWHOUSE?
I don’t want to give too much away before the big event, but I believe that we’ll probably roll with some sort of West Coast-style IPA/DIPA, and either a kettle soured Gose or a tank fermented sour.
HOW DO THESE BEERS FIT INTO YOUR NORMAL RANGE?
These beers will most likely be seasonal for the Spring/Summer release, but there will be a special release for Sydney Beer Week.
WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL THOUGHTS ON BOTH STYLES?
Hops… we love them! It’s in our name and with the new styles of hop available, we’re all over it. DIPA are winning and are some of our faves.
In the way of our sours, we’ve made a bit of a name for ourselves in this respect. Check out the likes of Holy Snappin’ Turtles, Unicorn Tears or Gose & The Pussycats for reference!
WHICH IS YOUR PERSONAL FAVOURITE?
I honestly can’t decide! I’m definitely a hop junky - I even have a hop themed tattoo! But I’m also all over the sours too. I’ll let the punters be the judge.
