Starting out early, Sarah Hanslow was only 14 when she got a waitressing job at the former Hero’s Hill ex-servicemen's club in Revesby Heights. During the amalgamation with Bankstown Sports, Sarah was offered a Chef apprenticeship and left school in Year 11 at the age of 17 to pursue her passion. Fast forward 7 years, and Sarah hasn’t looked back!
Over the years, Sarah has worked her way through various restaurants in the club, starting in Greenfield Station Bistro developing her culinary skills, then transitioned into the café where she perfected the art of coffee, then moved into fine dining. Over the years, Sarah has held various roles including Food Safety Advisor for the group, where she was responsible for ensuring all kitchens were maintained safely.
Sarah has achieved success in every stride, winning multiple awards over the years including 1st place in the HTN Culinary Competition, silver in the Golden Chefs hat awards and Chef’s Table Supervising Chef of the Year.
Sarah has headed the chef team in Basement Brewhouse since 2016 and paved the way for the venue to achieve excellence. As a young chef, she is now stepping up to her next challenge in her career as the Helmut’s Haus Head Chef, set to open in late November 2020.
“I am thrilled to be taking on the next challenge of my career. Having travelled to Germany in 2018, I am inspired to bring an authentic Bavarian experience to Bankstown Sports.”
