Flinders Centre, Green Star, sustainability
We are very pleased to announce the new Flinders Centre, Bankstown has been awarded a 5-Star Green Star – Office Design Certified rating, which represents Australian Excellence in building design.
Green Star assesses the sustainable design, construction and operation of buildings, fit outs and communities in Australia, encouraging companies to become more environmentally friendly, to create a healthy place for their employees and build a better future for all.
Green Star was launched by the Green Building Council of Australia in 2003, and is Australia’s only national and voluntary rating system for buildings and communities. 37 per cent of office space in Australia is currently Green Star certified and 42,000 people live in Green Star-rated apartments.
Green Star buildings produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions, use less electricity and consume less water, and they also recycle 96 per cent of all construction and demolition waste.
Flinders Centre, Bankstown met the scoring requirements in a number of different categories, including management, indoor environment quality, energy, transport, water, materials, land use and ecology, emissions and innovation. The office tower received impressive marks for management, indoor environment quality and transport.
Flinders Centre is due to be completed mid-year, offering A-grade commercial office space to the heart of Bankstown. The internal fit out for the main foyer and levels one and two is currently underway, and we are awaiting final council approval on our plans for a rooftop restaurant and bar on level 10.
