Prosper (Project Australia) was established in 2016 to help disadvantaged children, young adults and families by supporting them at home, school and in the community. Prosper offer a range of services including an English as a second language and health literacy program, parent training sessions and social skill development networks.
In September, Bankstown Sports provided $15,000 in funding to ensure the Canterbury-Bankstown Community Kitchen project, Prepare and Share, could continue to provide free access to kitchen facilities and fresh food to disadvantaged community members.
The Prepare and Share project seeks to address several local issues among disadvantaged families and culturally diverse community members by providing stocked kitchen facilities and nutritional education to ensure healthy eating habits are adopted.
Prosper Executive Director, Karen Craigie, said community members come along to enjoy a meal together.
“Each week, the Community Kitchen opens to serve a range of families and individuals living in the local area. Typically, around 15 attendees come along each week who gather to prepare food and enjoy each other’s company.”
Karen said Bankstown Sport’s support is invaluable.
“The support from Bankstown Sports has allowed us to fund our Community Kitchen program and keep it running over the course of the coming year. Without this invaluable financial assistance from Bankstown Sports, Prosper would not be in a position to offer the program.”
The Community Kitchen Prepare and Share sessions are held on Thursdays between 11am-1pm at Rotary Community Centre, commencing on 17 October 2019 and concluding on 19 December 2019. (There will be no Prepare and Share session on 28 November). There is no need to register, just drop in!
