From April 9th to 17th, 2025, New South Wales celebrated Youth Week—a special time dedicated to empowering and engaging young people aged 12 to 24 through a wide range of activities and events.
As in previous years, Canterbury-Bankstown City Council, in collaboration with local organisations, hosted a number of exciting programs for the community. One standout event was “Get Reel on Country”, which invited young people to spend a day on the Georges River. Participants enjoyed fishing, nature walks, and the unique opportunity to learn about local culture and land from Aboriginal Elders.
This year, Bankstown Sports Club proudly joined the initiative by donating 30 fishing rods and tackle boxes—one for each participant to take home as a memento of the day. Volunteers from the Bankstown Sports Fishing Club also generously gave their time, sharing their expertise and passion for fishing with the next generation.
