Bankstown Sports Club was a hive of activity for the race that stops a nation, with over a thousand people packing into our restaurants, cafe, Rainforest Lounge and newly opened Basement Brewhouse to enjoy some good food, a few drinks and free, live entertainment.
The day began with the Merebella Trio performing in the Rainforest, as $2, $5 and $10 sweeps were snapped up by members and patrons ahead of the big race. The Jive Bombers then got people out of their seats and dancing, before the big screen was lowered for the 3.05pm jump.
As people celebrated Almandin’s win, the Abba Experience duo took over the mic and entertained the crowd as they relaxed into the afternoon.
Elsewhere in the club, Platform One hosted a special High Tea in our Victorian-era train carriages, complete with champagne, scones, sweet treats, a 4-tier chocolate fountain and a lolly buffet. One lucky diner also won a $50 Bankstown Sports Club gift card in our Best Hat Competition.
Imperial Jade put on a Melbourne Cup banquet for guests wanting an extravagant long lunch, while Stuzzichino in La Piazza was near capacity for their 3-course set menu, as people enjoyed some authentic Italian food and wine.
The new Basement Brewhouse generated plenty of interest on its opening day and was bustling with people who had popped in to have a look, and ended up staying for the afternoon! Guests are embracing the new burger and craft beer offerings and love the unique booth seating areas.
Overall, a great day was had by all and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for next year’s Melbourne Cup festivities!
