Bankstown Sports Club hosted the opening night of the 2016 Lebanese Film Festival on Friday, 19 August, with more than 250 guests attending the event in The Theatre.
People started arriving at the club at 7pm and enjoyed some authentic Lebanese canapes, drinks, live music and an Arabic calligrapher.
As everyone was ushered into The Theatre, they were given complimentary popcorn and Booza ice cream, and took their seats to watch the introductory film Rise Above Lebanon. Event MC Nick Bracks then officially welcomed all of our guests and introduced festival co-directors Camille Lattouf and Jessica Khoury who announced ‘A Time in a Life’ as the Lebanese film of the year.
Director of City Services at Canterbury-Bankstown Council, Mr Graeme Beattie, and Dom Papaluca from major sponsor, St George Bank addressed the crowd and welcomed everyone to the event before they were treated to several Bankstown Poetry Slam performances from a few local entertainers.
Film screenings then got underway with Congratulations, A Time in a Life and Under the Robes, before the evening wound up with coffee, tea and cake. A great night was had by all!
The festival runs until 3 September with several films screening at Bankstown Sports Club. For tickets - http://www.bankstownsports.com/LFF
