Bankstown Sports Club and Toga Hospitality are pleased to announce that plans have been finalised to double the size of Travelodge Bankstown over the next two years.

Travelodge Bankstown, located on top of the sports club, currently has 108 rooms over four floors. The redeveloped hotel will offer 216 rooms over eight floors.

As part of the expansion, Bankstown Sports will redevelop its lobby area so that it caters to the needs of members and patrons today, and into the immediate future. There will be a separate check-in for Travelodge guests. The entry to the club from the car park, will have a wider staircase, escalators and a larger lift.

Bankstown Sports Assistant Secretary/Manager Mark Condi says the club is very pleased that the extensions are going ahead. "This will be a boost to the CBD of Bankstown," he says.

"When the hotel was originally planned in 1997, the development approval given was for eight floors. Over the years, the Travelodge Bankstown has proved to be a very successful operation with full occupancy rates for much of the year, so this expansion makes good commercial sense and will bring excellent benefits to our club," Mr Condi says.

"The fact that hotel guests have ready access to Bankstown Sports' six eateries, our bars, our entertainment facilities, the lounges and the free secure parking, makes this a very attractive destination for corporate and domestic travellers."

The construction, estimated at $20 million, will be carried out by builders Paynter Dixon and will begin before Christmas this year.

The Mayor of Bankstown, Clr Tania Mihailuk, welcomed the decision.

"Major projects such as this deliver jobs and provide a significant boost to our economy. By increasing the size of the hotel, Bankstown Sports is furthering its reputation as a premier conference and functions venue in our city."

In addition to an expanded Travelodge Bankstown, the Mona Street entrance to the club's car park will be improved, to ease congestion, and the club's bottle shop will be relocated.

"This redevelopment and expansion is a tremendous addition to the club and signals our strong commitment to growth within the city and to the community of Bankstown," Mr Condi says.

Rachel Argaman, CEO of Toga Hospitality, says that this will be a very exciting new development.

"We are delighted to announce the expansion of Travelodge Bankstown that offers excellent conferencing, banqueting and event facilities which drives the need for additional accommodation. Bankstown is becoming a major CBD in south-west Sydney. Expansion will allow us to continue to provide great value accommodation to those visiting the area be it for business or leisure."
