Ten Bankstown area clubs have contributed $774,437 to 69 not-for profit community projects in the local government area. A cheque presentation was held recently at Revesby Workers Club attended by Bankstown Mayor, Tanya Mihailuk, the Member for Auburn, Barbara Perry, MLC Helen Westwood AM, Member for East Hills, Alan Ashton and Clubs NSW Manager of Policy and Government Relations, Josh Landis.
The money is allocated through the Community Development Support Expenditure scheme (CDSE) whereby NSW clubs earning more than $1 million annually in gaming machine revenue provide funding for community projects.
Total CDSE funding to the Bankstown community has increased for the eight consecutive year.
Some of those receiving funding are:
Bankstown/Bass Hill RSL: Salvation Army Meals for the Homeless Program
Bankstown Sports Club: Bankstown Youth Development Service's Westside Junior Writers – project for children under 12 to develop literacy and writing
Bankstown Trotting and Recreation Club: Bankstown Dementia Carer's Group
Birrong Bowling Club: Cancer Council Transport to Treatment program
Chester Hill RSL & Bowling Club: Epilepsy Action Australia Support Program
Mt Lewis Bowling Club: Greenacre Neighbourhood Centre Discovering Sydney program. Excursions for children 6-12 years.
Panania Diggers: Bankstown City Aged Care, Yallambie Village construction
Padstow RSL: Coolaburoo Neighbourhood Centre's Surviving Perils of High School program
Revesby Workers Club: Share SMR Falls Prevention Program for the elderly
Last year, clubs across NSW spent $63 million to assist communities through the CDSE scheme. In Bankstown alone, local clubs have committed more than $2.6 million to the community in the last 10 years.
Community organisations apply for the funding and the clubs work with Bankstown Council to identify priority needs in the area.
Bankstown Sports' President John Murray says: "We appreciate the different needs of people in the community and we place great importance on ensuring families, the elderly and youth in need are given a fair go."
